The Vigrahavyāvartanī (VV) has been transmitted as a treatise divided into two clearly delimited parts:
Part I — kārikās 1-20 and their commentary, which contain a criticism of Nāgārjuna’s system, and
Part II — kārikās 21-70 and their commentary, which contain the refutation of that criticism. There is no introductory word for Part I. Part II is introduced with the expression atrocyate.
